OOC: Beginning of post back at the Glacier.
BIC: Chill stepped away from the opening in the ice. "You lot coming?" she called, moving anxiously forward. There was no real time to inquire. "Just come through and walk forward. I'll call Kwolenth."
The ice-blue wolf darting over the slick ice, fusing slowly but neatly into pure, white stone. There was no time to fully appreciate its beauty, however, if the Glacier wanted an accurate prediction--or explanation, Chill thought wryly. She skidded to a halt after her claws ceased to mark the ground. She was there.
"Kwolenth!" she called softly. Though her voice was quiet, her surroundings intensified the call, and the word bounced around this chamber, the tunnel behind, and the tunnels beyond. Kwolenth would hear. He had to hear.

Brisk nodded to Chill, and trotted ahead of her other pack members. She followed Chill at a steady pace, her eyes taking in some of the scenary. She sped up a bit when Chill entered, not wanting to miss anything at all. She joined her at the entrance and glanced around. "Exactly who is Kwolenth?" She asked.

Chill shifted position stiffly, turning to look at Brisk. "Kwolenth is the StoneSayer," she whispered, as though it were classified information. "He reads the Stones and can predict what will happen."
OOC: Yeah, short post...

Frost Moon blinked slowly as she entered the place. The cold ice beneath her paws made her feel safe but now as she was on smooth white stone and the sound of harsh clicking nails the beauty was forced to realize she wasn't in her beloved Glacier anymore. Finally, it was the Web of Ice she had been taught so much about since she had been born.
"So this is the Web of Ice?" Frost asked, her blue eyes wide with awe.

Blizzard had trotted quickly after Chill. He had realised that with Chill's rushed pace, they would have to get there quick. He would admire things afterwards. But for now, he would follow Chill. Although he was doing this, he did notice the chance from snow to rock. It felt weird under his paws, like ice that was not as cold, and harder. He shook his head and came to a stop. He had heard stories of Kwolenth, mainly from Chill, and now was finally going to see him.

Chill turned angrily to glare at Frost Moon. "This?" she snarled, a boiling rage coming to fill her. Where was this from? "This is not the Web! The Web is always with us, always...the whispirits live among it, and we have no right to visit it, if this even was the Web!" Chill forced herself to be calm. How would Frost Moon know? "This is the StoneSayer's cave," she explained. "The StoneSayer, Kwolenth, can make predictions for us. The Stones have a connection with the Web of Ice, and they can sometimes tell us what the Web wants us to know." She paused. "I think...I think I hear Kwolenth coming!"

Kwolenth heard his name reverberating loudly off the Stone walls. Chill's voice, he realized. What does she want now? Another prediction? Just because she can come doesn't mean she has to. Nevertheless, the old wolf turned and made for the chamber that led to Web of Ice territory. He waited now. There were other wolves here, Kwolenth realized with a pang of fear. There should not be other wolves here!
The black-furred wolf listened, listened as a she-wolf asked about the Web of Ice. This, the Web? Kwolenth held back a snort of laughter. Chill retorted angrily, and that pleased him. If the young wolf was protective of this place, she must know what she was doing, bringing other wolves here.
Chill had given him an opening in which to come. Kwolenth stepped out into the open, yellow eyes bright against his dark fur. He knew that, even against the bright stone, he would be nearly impossible to see. That was something he enjoyed. The stone walls understood him, and built shadows to cover him. Now, he would just be a pair of glistening eyes with a voice.
"Chill?" he asked softly. "I see you've brought visitors." His voice was icy, he realized with some kind of glee. He hoped some wolves were frightened of him. That was enjoyable. "Why did you bring...your pack?" That wouldn't do, he thought, wasn't frightening at all. The Stones sent him names. Blizzard, they whispered. Frost Moon. Brisk. Kwolenth repeated them, softly, to himself, so that he would remember, just as he would repeat the name and meaning of a new Stone that he was not yet familiar with.
Kwolenth shrugged off his question and turned to the male, so proud-looking. This must be Blizzard. "Blizzard," he said. "I guess you have some questions."

Frost Moon's ears folded back against her skull at Chill's vicious voice. She snarled at her, telling Frost things as if Chill expected the marked she-wolf to already know them. Suddenly a spark flared to life within Frost and instead of recoiling and trying to calm the other female, one she had come to think of as a potential friend, like she normally would with her smooth unworried personality Frost Moon's lip curled to reveal curved canines that gleamed within the dim lighting of the cave. She pulled herself up proudly and her hackles begun to rise but she relaxed again as Chill began to calm, it seemed as if she didn't know why her anger had taken place either.
Icy blue eyes darted over to the discs of gold that glowed from the shadows. The voice that spoke was somewhat powerful, holding wisdom and strength that Frost couldn't hope to know. The young female allowed herself to move a little closer to Chill, almost unnoticable, but just enough so she could gain comfort from the warmth of the other wolf in her pack. Rarely was Frost Moon ever scared enough to retreat to another wolf for help, she was often relaxed and allowed the wolf a chance to prove it was nothing to fear, but this one Kwolenth, as Frost had guessed he was, was someone to be revered and perhaps feared.
So only a soft whine of uncertainty, directed towards Chill, left Frost's muzzle as she watched the pair of golden eyes warily.

Chill flicked her tail at Frost Moon. "Don't worry," she muttered, "Kwolenth isn't as frightening as he likes to act." The white-furred she-wolf directed an exasperated stare at the older wolf. Why such drama? Kwolenth enjoyed it too much.
Chill turned and looked over at Blizzard. Kwolenth was talking to him; was this some sort of challenge aimed at Blizzard? Kwolenth shouldn't do anything like that, Chill knew, but it was just the sort of thing he would do, out of spite to anything expected.

Blizzard stood tall and proud, as the Center wolf of a pack normally does. His tail swayed softly as glanced at Chill before turning his full attention to Kwolenth. He had been quiet up until then, and was still rather quiet now.
He was rather shocked at the colour of Kwolenth's fur. He blended with the dark of the shadows. That must have meant that his fur was... well.. dark. To him, this dark fur was unusual, and so had shocked him. He shifted his paws a little, as he did when he was cold as he looked at Kwolenth's eyes. They too were odd. Bright yellow. They were unusual...
Blizzard responded to Kwolenth's addressing to him by giving a small dip of the head, to show respect. He slowly lifted it back up and faced Kwolenth. "I do." Was the sort response to the beginning of the talk of questions. "I have a few about this so called... disease. I need some things cleared up about it. Such as, what is the disease going to be" His voice came out strong, not as quiet as he had been. He hoped that he sounded okay, he was nervous, but, who wouldn't be at the face of Kwolenth.
He glanced over at Chill quickly again. She seemed so calm about it all. So content with knowing that Kwolenth was just lengths away...

Kwolenth closed his eyes, blinking for too long for it to really be considered a blink. He watched Blizzard looking at him, his eyes, at the shadows...
The Glacier doesn't have fur or eyes like this, he realized. I must look strange to them. Kwolenth didn't want to risk looking vulnerable, but the possibility of looking like he was weak enough to need to hide was enough to convince him to step away from the shadows that had built for him. The old wolf stepped away, standing in the center of the chamber, aged limbs carrying him strongly and allowing him to sit without incident--lately, he knew, the signs of age were catching up with him. It would be time to take a StoneSayer-in-Training soon. It couldn't be Chill, though...
The black-furred wolf unknowingly rippled momentarily with power unknown to the other wolves. Stones, small ones, with symbols only he could read cascaded from unhidden openings in the walls. Walls. Such an odd word, but no matter. The Stones arranged themselves neatly at his paws, but he paid them hardly any attention. His gaze was locked on Blizzard.
"My predictions," he said at last, "are based solely on my...interpretation of what the Stones have to...tell me." It was so hard, he realized, to find the words to explain what happened between a StoneSayer and their namesake, the Stones. "I may have been unclear in what I read. I can recount for you what exactly was said, but I prefer...prefer to have it said differently as well. In this way, we can see what is similar and can be pieced together."
With that, Kwolenth bent his head, touching his muzzle to the Stones below. They began to shift, spin, twirl...a whirling tornado of white rock--pure white to the Glacier wolves, laced with symbols to Kwolenth.
The Stones settled again, in the same pattern, but in a much different order. The black-furred wolf looked closely at their symbols, blinked, and looked again. It couldn't be! He shook his head. "This is unclear," he muttered. "How could...could a sickness speak? How could a storm be a strong leader?"
Then it came to him.
A storm. A blizzard. Blizzard! And a sickness? A chill--of course, Chill!
"It's you," he announced, his voice shocked. "You two." His gaze locked on Blizzard and Chill, in turn. He repeated his thoughts, as they had come to him. "Naturally," he concluded. "There was never any true danger. Simply strong wolves--strong wolves for the Glacier." Kwolenth looked at the others, those who had not been mentioned to him--yet. "The entire Glacier has something to fulfill," he said. "Just because you are not mentioned by name does not mean these--" he prodded the stones with a paw-- "do not speak of you at all. There are some Stones not used in the prediction, but still there." He gazed at the symbols. "The signs for Moon and Frost--Frost Moon, your name is, yes? Brisk, you are here, too. And another--Noel, is it? Yes, you're all here." Now the old wolf sank back, into the shadows--shadows that built up for him. "If you all don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you'd leave. Unless--" and the old wolf's eyes glittered-- "you would like to share something to eat. I have more than enough and, if I remember correctly, the Glacier might not."

The comforting, soft words of Chill made Frost relax, her shoulders slumping slightly as she sighed. She did not know why she trusted the aggresive ice-blue she-wolf that stood beside her enough to let Chill's confidence calm her. Then Blizzard spoke and broke Frost from her musing, blinking slowly she nodded in agreement with his questions, she too wanted these answered. Stones? They appeared too, suddenly tumbling from the walls of the cavern and collecting at Kwolenth's paws. Then he seemed to ask them something by touching his muzzle to them and they began to shift.
Frost Moon was mezmerized by the stones. The twisting, the turning, the whirling blur they became. Her icy eyes stared intently at the whirlwind of white, her paw coming forward a little as if she were to take a step towards Kwolenth and the stones. But then the stones fell, or stopped as was the more accurate term, calming themselves in front of the black male that waited for their answers and in doing so Frost was ripped from her stupor with a force powerful enough to make her wince.
The moon marked wolf's ear flicked at her name, "Yes. My name is Frost Moon. But I think I would have preferred to have gone unnamed by the Stones, it makes life less complicated and I don't need any more complications. Life is hard enough on its own without a prophecy of some sort to fulfill."

Chill was stunned. How--her? Named by the Stones? The whole Glacier was mentioned! This was...had it ever happened before? Somehow, the ice-blue wolf doubted it. It didn't seem likely. And, yet...
She wagged her tail at Frost Moon's comment. "Just because," she said softly," the Stones mention you doesn't you have a prophecy. It just means that you have something eles to fulfill. A destiny of your own. It doesn't need to be big, or great," she added, "but all wolves are important to the..." she thought, now, of what Kwolenth would say-- "total outcome of all of our actions."

Brisk held her breath. She let out a sigh of relief, finding Kwolenth didn't say her name. She couldn't help feel slightly jealous, but she shrugged it off. She glanced at the stones warily, feeling overwhelmed. "Yeah, sure." She said when Kwolenth spoke of her stone. She thought about what was going on in her stone, but she soon snapped from her thoughts. "No thank you, Kwolenth. I'm not very hungry." She said, glancing at Chill. She sat on her haunches, and waited.

Blizzard looked slightly confused. The stones. They had mentioned him and Chill in particular. He glanced over at Chill again. 'Kwolenth had said 'The Glacier has something to fulfill.' What was that something? And was it important?' He shook his mind of it.
He thought about the food offer. "I shall let my pack decide." Came the short answer. "If they are hungry, let us eat, if they are not, let us leave."

Chill flicked her tail from side to side. "I could really go for something to eat," she said, hunger suddenly raising itself upward, surging from forgotten parts of her subconcious. On the Glacier, Chill ignored hunger pangs--she ate when she ate, and the chance of finding food when hunger struck was slim. With Kwolenth, though, there was always food. No wolf was entirely sure where he got it all--perhaps the stone walls just created it for him. It was strange food--not prey in the sense that Pernettya berries were not prey, but still good to eat, quelling hunger. Kwolenth looked like he ate meat, though...it was something to think about at another time.
Chill added, "There's food like you wouldn't believe in Kwolenth's chambers." She cast a sly gleam at him--the old wolf might not enjoy what she said, but he would most likely be amused--and said, "We can have as much as we want," with a gleam in her eyes.

Frost Moon smiled at Chill, why did this she-wolf, who could not have been much older than Frost herself, seem so wise? She knew far beyond one of her moons should. With an annoyed sigh and a shake of her white head to rid herself of the troublesome thoughts, Frost nodded.
"I agree, we should eat while we can. Our food supply fluxates too often for us to be too proud to say so and pass up a good meal," Frost Moon turned her attention to Kwolenth, still wary of the old wolf. "I thank you for your offer and would very much like to join you and Chill."

Kwolenth nodded slowly. The old wolf turned, facing the same tunnel he'd come from. "If you're hungry, then," he began, "you'd better come this way. I have more than enough to eat." He passed Chill, brushing lightly against her fur, snarling playfully, "I hope you get sick." He brushed the Stones lightly with one forepaw, and they set to whirling again, faster and faster until the blurred symbols disappeared and they were like a hailstorm of solid white. They skittered to the edges of the chamber, and were gone.
The black-furred wolf snorted. It was an impressive sight, he knew, enough to make most wolves step away. The Stones were not dangerous, just fast, and this cavern made of the same material as them, they moved even faster. Some wolves would want to be the StoneSayer themselves, learning how to read the Stones' impassive white. They didn't realize that they were littered with the symbols that gave them meaning--but, then again, why should they?
Kwolenth strode slowly to the tunnel's opening. "Come, then, if you wish to eat," he announced.

Chill swished her tail happily. "I'll come," she stated, casting a glance at the others. "Despite what he may imply, Kwolenth really likes guests," Chill said. He did, too, she knew.
She strode slowly over to Kwolenth, standing next to him. "Come on," she urged the Glacier wolves. "Before we go back to all that snow and ice, we should get something to eat."

Frost Moon sent asn uneasy glance at Kwolenth. Despite the fact that the white she-wolf had taken him up on his offer, Frost couldn't help but feel a little apprehensive around him. Something about his eyes, she really wasn't sure it just unnerved her and made her pelt prickle.
So with one last look at the bright white fur of the Glacier pack, Frost Moon stepped forward, following the ice blue-furred Chill.

Blizzard gave a smile and followed Kwolenth. Now that food was being presented, he was getting hungry. He turned to Chill. "I'm really happy that the stones were just talking about us. I mean, I thought that the pack was in some sort of grave danger where we'd all die." He gave a sigh of releif. "I really can't explain how releived I am though.... On a total change of subject, how long have you been coming here for?"

OOC: Frost Moon, my fur isn't blue. It's ice-blue... IC: Chill turned to Blizzard as Kwolenth led them down the tunnel. "Ever since I was a cub," she admitted. "The Representative at the Glacier took me here. The fur on Kwolenth was definitely the biggest shock, seeing as every wolf on the Glacier has white or ice-blue fur, but I was more accepting than an older wolf would have been. Cubs are like that, I guess," she sighed. "I began coming here whenever we needed Kwolenth's aid, and I learned how to deal with him and the Stones and everything. They don't usually rush in from above," Chill added. "That was just to show off, I think."

Blizzard gave a small laugh. "I must say that the fur was definately a shock to me. Even if you know, it would shock you. Unless you've been coming for as long as you." He gave a small smile at her. "I suppose that Kwolenth doesn't get much company here. Other than you I mean. He's probably been dying to do this for a group. Just to see their faces in shock." He gave a small laugh at the concept of it again.

OOC: Ooh, Blizzard, some typing mistakes. Definitely, doesn't, and dying. All of which start with the same letter... IC: Chill whipped her tail through the air. "Knowing him, I'd say the whole 'perform-for-a-pack' thing would bring a little amusement." She paused, thinking. "I think I'm not the only wolf who visits Kwolenth," she admitted. "If...if there are other Webs--" Chill's voice dropped at this, since the other Webs were hardly common knowledge-- "then there must be other Representatives. They must come to see him, too, just as I do. Though," she added, snorting with amusement, "I doubt any of them would bring their whole pack."

OOc: Never again shall I mistaken her fur color *makes solemn vow*
IC: Frost Moon padded ahead of the two other wolves, Chill and Blizzard. Her intensely blue gaze focused on Kwolenth's black coat. Hesitantly, she stepped beside the older wolf making sure to keep with the pace he set whether fast or slow. A nervous lick of her muzzle before she spoke.
"It really is quite... amazing to watch you read the stones. Or cast them, however they speak to you, I am not used to how you would say it," Frost said with a slight apologetic dip of her head. "Have you always been able to? Hear the stones I mean...?"

Post by Kwolenth on Jan 31, 2007 14:26:47 GMT -5
Kwolenth considered the question carefully. "I suppose," he stated, "that Stone-Hearing comes only with aknowledgement of the Stones and a great concentration towards them and what they are Saying. Hence, the StoneSayer may relay their message. It is not, however, a vocal thing. There are no real words involved--at least, not in such predictions as that you just witnessed. Not all wolves," he added, "can read the Stones. The ability to concentrate on the Stones is different from that which is required to concentrate on a bit of prey. This," Kwolenth said rather proudly, "is the part that must already exist within the wolf."
He would have said more, but the section of wall he knew concealed food had appeared before them. Kwolenth signaled the others to stop with his tail, attempting to keep them from turning into the passageway that snaked in another direction. Kwolenth dipped low in recognition to the apparently blank wall, stretching one paw forward.
The wall shivered, then began to melt. "Melt" is an inaccurate term, though--truly, it only appeared to melt away, revealing the food hidden beyond. Kwolenth strode forward, inhaling the scents deeply and leading the Glacier wolves to the right of this entrance, where there were clumps of Pernettya berries, the Glacier's native plant and the wolves' most common food, were stacked in great quantities.
"Eat," he invited them.

Bic: "I suppose so," He said quietly, his own voice dropping. "But I'm sure that you're some of his best company." He gave a smile as he talked to her. "And I don't think that other packs do come as whole packs. It would be.... impractical." He gave a small laugh with that and stopped as Kwolenth did. He stared at the wall as it... melted? That didn't make much sense, but not much in here did. He looked into the room. The smell was enticing. There was... so much of it...

Chill stared at the wall. Well, this is a new trick, she thought absently, following the black-furred wolf in.
Food!
She rushed forward, with hardly any regard for how it looked, and tore off a branch from one of the bushes. She raised an eyebrow at the others, a silent "Won't you come and eat?" as she bit into the tiny berries. Glacier wolves, she thought, remembering something Kwolenth had once said, must be the only wolves that eat this stuff. Too bad for the others, then.

She wagged her tail, turning to the other wolves even as she held another branch within her jaws. "Maybe we should just...eat and leave," she suggested. "There are preparations to be made at the Glacier for the cold moons--they promise to be long--" she sighed-- "as always. We should try and catch as much prey as possible." Chill dipped her head in acknowledgement of the others, adding, "Or we could just take something along from here."
